AUWU is launching a strike on Tuesday 4 August to coincide with the reintroduction of mutual obligations. We’ll be calling on welfare recipients to refuse to engage with job agencies. Our demand is that the government extend a full MO suspension until at least 31 December – that date is based on the treasurer’s forecast that unemployment will rise 2% by Christmas.
At the moment there is no penalty for refusing to participate in most MO activities, and we’ll be providing clear guidance to make sure people are confident that they’re payment won’t be affected by participating.
