The Poor People’s Campaign just launched a groundbreaking new report, “Unleashing the Power of Poor and Low Income Americans; Changing the Political Landscape,”  that proves empirically what we’ve always known: that poor and low-income people are the key to political transformation in this country and could also become a new and decisive electorate.

The report finds that if the 34 million poor and low-income eligible nonvoters in the 2016 presidential election had mobilized at the same rate as higher-income voters, they could have met or exceeded the margin of victory in 15 states. We know that this potential voting power could be even greater this November, but that will only happen if poor folks get organized around an agenda that speaks to their struggles and the crisis that’s raging around us.

Over the next three months, the Poor People’s Campaign will be leading a mass voter organizing project in poor communities across the country: We Must Do MORE (Mobilizing, Organizing, Registering, and Educating). This will be an expansive effort of base-building, voter registration and protection, town halls and forums, and nationally coordinated days of action. It will be zeroing in on 16 states where there are significant races and where we know we can make an immediate and lasting impact. This effort will be kicked off with a mass digital rally and call to action on September 14. Sign up to help do MORE. Click here for the Digital Toolkit.
