At a GOP event in Wood County, Wis. last Saturday, gubernatorial candidate State Rep. Timothy Ramthun (R-Campbellsport) platformed his views on abortion: no exceptions.

In audio from the event, provided to Heartland Signal by a Democratic source on the condition of anonymity, Ramthun says, “Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is allowed and affordable to the child of the womb who the Lord knew before it was there. It’s not our place to mess with the Lord’s will; I don’t care how the conception occurred.”

It’s hardly the first time Ramthun said he opposes abortion without exceptions.

The sixth platform point on his campaign website is dedicated to his “Pro Life” stance. It links to a five-minute video on Rumble, a video hosting site popular with right-wing users who were deplatformed by YouTube, where Ramthun says he is “hardcore 100% pro-life without exceptions,” and claims it is “an abomination to think otherwise.”

Last year, Ramthun joined Republican State Rep. Chuck Wichgers in voting against an anti-abortion bill which both representatives said wasn’t restrictive enough, The Journal Times of Racine reported.

As previously reported by Heartland Signal, Ramthun has a record in the state house of pushing conservative points even past his own party’s comfort level.

In January, Assembly Speaker Robin Vos disciplined Ramthun after he accused Vos of signing a deal with attorneys for former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton to authorize ballot drop boxes.

Ramthun even went so far as to call for Wisconsin to decertify the votes of the state’s 10 electors in the 2020 presidential election, which is legally impossible. On his campaign site, Ramthun declares he will “call for an independent full forensic physical cyber audit of the November 2022 election, beginning with my race regardless of the outcome.”

Retiring State Sen. Kathy Bernier (R-Chippewa Falls) told Wisconsin Eye last month that her fellow Republican is misguided when it comes to his views on the election process. “Whether it’s dangerous or not, is up to the electors.”
