Our volunteers speak up for abundant, affordable, and fair housing in California. Each city is assigned a unique number of new homes they need to plan for in the next eight years (their Regional Housing Needs Allocation). We need volunteers to make sure the cities make realistic, equitable plans, and follow through!

What are Fair Housing Elements?

Housing Elements envision a city’s future housing

California cities lay a policy roadmap to provide housing for current and future residents in a document called a Housing Element. Cities create Housing Elements as part of their overall General Plan for the future of the city.

Fair Housing Elements promote inclusive housing

Cities use zoning and land use laws to reinforce segregated neighborhoods. The Campaign for Fair Housing Elements advocates for cities to actively plan for diverse housing options that are accessible to people of all backgrounds and income levels using the principles of Fair Housing.
