Tell Congress: Fund the IRS to stop Trump and the wealthy from evading taxes

    Petition to Congress:
Donald Trump's ridiculously low tax payments are partly the result of years of cuts to the IRS budget. It's time to add much more funding to the IRS so they have the resources to audit and penalize wealthy individuals and big corporations that evade their taxes.

The bombshell news that Donald Trump paid a mere $750 in federal income taxes in 2016 and 2017 is a major scandal.

It's also made possible by years of Congress underfunding the IRS.

Politicians have helped the rich and big corporations evade their taxes by cutting the funds the IRS needs to investigate and prosecute tax cheats. As a result, the IRS spends more time auditing the poor than the rich.1

This is unacceptable -- and it must change. Sign the petition and tell Congress: Fund the IRS and stop Trump and the rich from evading their taxes!

Trump's taxes are a classic example of what happens when the IRS is underfunded. In 2010 he claimed a $72 million tax refund. The IRS began auditing that refund in 2011, but they have not yet finished that work -- in part because the IRS isn't funded to take on Trump's army of lawyers.2

Although Trump is under audit, many other wealthy Americans aren't.3 Neither are major companies. In 2018 Amazon paid no federal income taxes, and instead received a $129 million tax rebate.4

Yet many Americans routinely pay a lot more in federal income taxes every year than Trump or Amazon, and still get audited. Congress rigged the system against working people to benefit the rich and powerful. It's time for Congress to reverse that and stop letting Trump and wealthy people get away with not paying what they should be in taxes. Will you help?
